Good morning

I wish to inform you that all our efforts for months now to have the two hippos relocated from Kwaggahoek Dam to another place of safety did not work out as planned and we are thus waiting for permits to have them hunted.

As an organization where we love nature our first goal would rather have been to keep them alive as far as we could. We are unfortunately not able to do so in future due to the complexity of relocating live hippos also taking into account their age and size as well as the danger to visitors and staff at the dam. We have done everything in our power but our options are indeed now limited. It is indeed a sad time for the owner of the dam as well as for myself to know we are out of options now.

The final application for hunting permits has been submitted by the owner of the dam and we are awaiting approval from Nature Conservation.

I will inform you when we are officially opening the dam again. I know that you have been waiting for a long time now and missed out on your Winter sessions at the dam. Perhaps it is also good that our big fish in the dam have experience a period of rest from being hooked.

Thank you for your patience in this regard as well as your ongoing support. It is much appreciated!
